How can you tell if a martial arts dojo is a mcdojo?

Here are a few things I’ve noticed over the years to tell if your dojo is a mcdojo:
1. The head instructor does not teach at your location.
Usually, the head instructor will make special appearances a couple of times a year where students are obligated to show up and make him feel like a celebrity. Some mcdojos even have head instructors in another country.
2. The main instructor at your school is a 1st or 2nd degree black belt, but teaches a system developed by someone who is some ungodly number of degrees in their own system.
3. The main instructor at your school has a full time job doing something else.
4. Your dojo is part of a federation that shares the same curriculum among member schools.
5. Your dojo does tournaments only with schools in your federation.
6. The governing committee in your school’s federation consists of big bellied brawlers who have a ridiculous number of black belt degrees and wear gaudy custom uniforms.
7. You see advertisements in national magazines for the system your school subscribes to, usually named after the guy who owns the chain and the franchise rights.
8. You get a membership card that allows you to train at any participating dojo location.
9. They have a ‘camo’ or ‘camouflage’ belt in their ranking system.
10. You get a black belt in a year or less.
