Jeet Kune Do as Natural Martial Arts Style
Kung Fu, Karate, Judo, Jute Kune Do, and Tai Kwon Do are some of the famous street and sports fight styles which are known worldwide. People interested in fighting styles and defensive techniques opt to learn any of these styles. The worldwide popularity of these styles started in early 70’s when Bruce Lee introduced these arts to Hollywood. His earlier movies in Hong Kong included The Big Boss, and Fist of Fury which brought these fighting skills to silver screen and Hollywood giants like Warner Brothers find it a new genre to introduce to viewers of Hollywood. Way of the Dragon, and Enter the Dragon, the two Hollywood movies of Bruce Lee brought worldwide fame to these arts which previously were confined to oriental region only.
Every country has some of its own style of fighting traditions. Karate and Judo are Japanese styles, Kung Fu is synonymous to China, and Tai Kwon Do is Korean style. Thailand is famous for its Thai Boxing and Kick Boxing. Other far eastern countries like Philippines, Indonesia, and Taiwan have their own Styles Of Martial Arts.
Bruce Lee is considered to be the greatest icon of martial arts world over. As an undefeated champion his legacy continues today in form of Jeet Kune Do (JKD) which he founded in late 60’s as mixing of natural flexibilities with various combinations of different Kung Fu forms. Bruce Lee trained people like Steve McQueen, Ken Wall, Chuck Norris, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, and Dan Inosanto. Dan is the foremost student of Bruce Lee and among only three students whom Bruce Lee certified himself to teach Jeet Kune Do. Today, in USA, various Jeet Kune Do academies and their branches are working under direct supervision of Dan Inosanto.
Bruce Lee’s art of Self Defense and natural fights became worldwide popular through his five movies which included The Big Boss, Fist of Fury, Way of the Dragon, Enter the Dragon, and Game of Death. The last movie was released in 1978, five years after death of Bruce Lee. These movies helped great to popularize fighting arts and militaries of various countries also adopted Jeet Kune Do as official style of fighting training including commando training.
In his books, Bruce Lee wrote not only the techniques but also the philosophy behind these great styles. Tao of Jeet Kune Do is the most famous book written by Bruce Lee which has drawing and sketches designed by Bruce Lee himself. The book is considered as the icon and authority on philosophy of fighting styles and self defense techniques, and considered best seller still today in the discipline of great oriental fighting styles.
